February 28, 2022 | Baseball
Coastal Carolina jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
After a scoreless second inning, the Cardinals started to put things together. Adam Christianson started the inning with a one-out walk. Amir Wright followed with a single to center. After a balk moved Christianson and Wright up a base, Zach Lane drew a walk to load the bases. Nick Powell came up huge for the Cardinals as he cleared the bases with a single down the left-field line and gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

The Chants produced a six-run inning in the bottom of the fourth and held an 8-3 lead after four innings of play.
Wright drew a one-out walk in the top of the fifth inning to get things started for the Cardinals. Lane reached on a throwing error by the second baseman, which advanced Lane and Wright to second and third, respectively. Powell struck out, but the ball got away from the catcher, which allowed Powell to reach safely and Wright to score. Trenton Quartermaine notched an infield single that drove in Lane from third and cut the deficit to 8-5.
Coastal Carolina picked up an insurance run in the home half of the fifth to extend its lead to 9-5.
In the top of the seventh, Quartermaine started the inning with a solo shot to right center to cut the deficit to 9-6. Quartermaine has now homered in back-to-back games.

From the Coach – Head Coach Rich Maloney
"It was a challenging weekend for our ball club against solid competition. We came up short in two outstanding college games and just couldn't get our bats going all weekend. We will regroup and get ready to play Florida A&M."
