Women’s Swimming & Diving Travels To IUPUI Friday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Friday, along with the men's squad, when it travels to IUPUI for a 4 p.m. dual at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The Cardinals (1-2; 0-2 MAC) are coming off a near upset of defending MAC Champion Akron last Saturday, winning eight of the 16 events in a narrow 159-138 setback.
Overall, Ball State's swimmers won 24 of the 46 events they competed in over the last three dual matches, led by five individual wins apiece from junior Marcella Ribeiro and freshman Payton Kelly.
BSU will look to carry over that success into Friday's meet against an IUPUI squad which split a pair of duals last time out, earning at 166-74 win at Green Bay (Oct. 27) and suffering a 153-174 setback at Milwaukee (Oct. 28). Overall, the Jaguars enter the meet with a 6-3 (1-1 Horizon League) dual record.

The last time Ball State and IUPUI went head-to-head was a Jan. 5, 2018, quad meet hosted by IUPUI. The Jaguars claimed a 174-126 victory over BSU on the day.
IN THE MAC RANKINS – WOMEN:
Entering Friday's meet, the Cardinals have six student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events after the first four meets of the season, as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com.
Freshman Payton Kelly, who placed 16th in the prelims of the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.42 (SCM) at the FINA World Cup in Toronto on Oct. 28, is BSU's top-ranked swimmer, holding sixth in the 50 freestyle with her time of 23.45 at the Indiana Intercollegiates (Oct. 22).

MAC AWARD WINNERS:
Three weeks into the season and the Cardinals have already claimed two MAC award, with freshman Payton Kelly earning a pair of MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.
Her first came after the Indiana Intercollegiates where she won both the 50 (23.45) and 100 (51.55) freestyle events and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.05).
Her second came after last Saturday's contest versus Akron after she swept the freestyle sprints; 50 free (23.57), 100 free (51.74), and 200 free (1:52.48). She also swam anchor for the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:27.48)
