Ball State completes run at MAC Championships

Cardinals finish ninth as a team
ATHENS, Ohio – The Ball State cross country team wrapped up its run at the annual Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday. The Cardinals placed ninth in the 6k run at the Ohio University Golf Course.
"The ladies competed hard today," head coach Adrian Wheatley said. "One of the things that I am encouraged by was their ability to compete as the race continued to unfold. There were surges and different moves in the races that I believe would have made it challenging to come back in years past. They stayed poised, focused and alert, and they continued to push through.
"We're not where we want to be at, at this point, but we're taking steps in the right direction. There were a handful of lifetime PRs, and we can certainly celebrate them. We're still working towards our goal of being in the top half of the conference. It's a process, we're enjoying the journey and we're going to continue to get better.
"I shared with the seniors after the race that I thank them for their ability to commit to what we're trying to do here. They have responded, bought in and have seen good performances."
Sarah Mahnensmith was Ball State's top finisher at 29th with a personal-best time of 21:32.9, which was nearly 30 seconds faster than her last 6k run two weeks ago at the Falcon Invite.
Vivian Van Eck ran her second-fastest 6k ever with a time of 22:14.5, which included a strong close to her final run at the MAC Championships. She crossed the line in 45th.
Sarah Greer also ran a personal-best with a time of 22:31.2, good for 58th.
Jenna Schifferer and Grace Dean each ran their second-fastest 6ks all-time after crossing the line in time of 22:55.7 and 22:58.5, respectively.
Jocilyn Stackis and Autumn Spence each ran 6k personal bests. Stackis ended with a time of 23:25.0, while Spence finished in 24:27.4
Ball State returns to the course Friday, Nov. 11 for the NCAA Regionals in Terre Haute, Ind.
