
Men’s Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Indiana Intercollagiates

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team turned in 14 top five efforts to take third place among the eight-team field at Saturday's Indiana Intercollagiates hosted by Purdue.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was junior Joey Garberick who picked up his first event victory of the season by taking the 100 IM with a time of 51.01.
The two-time defending Mid-American Conference champion in the 100 breaststroke, Garberick also placed second in that event at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center with a time of 55.20.
Owen Chaye opened his senior season with a pair of second-place performances for the Cardinals, clocking in at 20.67 in the 50 free and 45.70 in the 100 free.
Ball State's 200 freestyle relay also touched the wall in the runner-up position, as senior Jack Wolfred, freshman Jacob Siewers, freshman Ben Clarkston, and senior Patrick White clocked in at 1:24.49.
Siewers and senior Bryce Handshoe rounded out the Cardinals top three finishers, taking third in the 100 free (46.45) and 100 fly (50.38), respectively.
Host Purdue won the eight-team meet with 717 points, followed by IUPUI (497) and the Cardinals (415) to round out the top three.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Friday, when it welcomes Eastern Illinois to the Lewellen Aquatic Center for a 6 p.m. coed meet.
