Women's Tennis Opens 2022 Season With 7-0 Sweep Over EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. -Â The Ball State women's tennis team starts yet another season on the high note under ninth-year head coach Max Norris, as the Cardinals turned in an impressive 7-0 sweep over Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
It was the first match of the season for both the Cardinals (1-0) and the Panthers (0-1).
BSU took all three doubles matches from Eastern Illinois starting with the No. 3 doubles tandem of Amy Kaplan and Isabelle Behrman as the duo defeated Lauren Ellis and Kaitlyn Snyder, 6-2. It was the top court of Emma Peeler and Maryia Polischuk that would clinch the first point of today's match for the Cardinals. Peeler and Polishchuk paired up for a 6-3 victory against Rachel Papvasilopoulos and Brittany Steven.Â
]The Cardinals carried their momentum into singles action taking first sets on all six courts from the Panthers. Elan Malykh sped through her match quickly winning 6-0 in straight sets while Polishchuk managed two only give up two games against EIU's No. 3 player Christine Gouws.Â
After that, Livia Lukacs did not give up a game to Claire Perez-Korinko on court six winning 6-0, 6-0 , clinching match point for Ball State.Â
Rounding out today's singles victories for Ball State were Amy Kaplan at position No. 4, Jessica Braun on the top court and Emma Peeler at the No. 2 spot all winning in straight sets against their respective opponents.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home next Sunday, Jan. 30 when it hosts Butler at 1 p.m. ET at the Northwest YMCA.
