Cardinals Dominate Pioneers, Remain Undefeated

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's volleyball team was back inside Worthen Arena on Saturday for a non-conference showdown with Tusculum.
Kaleb Jenness and Dyer Ball led the Cardinals with seven kills each, while Quinn Isaacson dished out a career-high 25 assists. BSU improved to 2-0 on the year, while TU fell to 0-2, after Ball State won in straight sets.
Ball State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening set. The Pioneers rallied and went on a 6-3 run to tie the first set at 6-6. The first set remained close and was tied at 13-13. The momentum quickly turned in favor of the Cardinals when Isaacson was on the serve. Ball State rattled off 10-straight points, including two aces. Ball State went on to win the first set, 25-15.
The Cardinals started on serve in the second set and continued to ride the hot serve of Isaacson. Isaacson recorded three-consecutive aces to start the set and then BSU saw an early 4-0 lead after a set error by Tusculum. The Cardinals went on a 9-3 run and took a commanding 13-4 lead in the second. With BSU leading, 14-5, Felix Egharevba joined in on the service ace fun. Egharevba picked up four service aces out of the five Cardinal points during a 5-0 run. Ball State continued to dominate and went on to a 25-7 second-set victory.
The third set was like the first two, which saw BSU jump out to an early lead. The Pioneers came back and kept the set close and were within one, 8-7. The Cardinals turned up the intensity and went on an 8-2 run and gained a 16-9 lead. Ball State kept the throttle down and won the third set 25-15.
Jenness and Ball tied for a match-high seven kills, and both added two aces. Isaacson's career-high assists were also a match high. Isaacson produced two kills with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage and was second on the squad with six digs. Colin Ensalaco collected a game-high seven digs and chipped in with three assists. Vanis Buckholz finished with six kills and was tied for the team lead with two block assists.
As a team, Ball State combined for an impressive .407 hitting percentage for the match. The Cardinals posted 14 service aces, which is the third most in program history.
Ball State returns to action for a non-conference match with George Mason. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, inside Worthen Arena.
