Soccer Welcomes Assistant Coach Hannah Sullivan
August 18, 2021 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Hannah Sullivan, who helped guide Marian University women's soccer to a program record 21 wins last season, will join the Ball State soccer program as an assistant coach according to head coach Josh Rife.
Â
"We are excited to have Hannah join our staff," Rife said. "She is a great addition that will help with training our goalkeepers, as well as field players. I am equally excited to see her build relationships with the players and be able to share her experiences as a Division I student-athlete with them."
Â
Sullivan, who worked under current Ball State assistant coach Gary Yohe in her one season as an assistant at Marian in 2020-21, is no stranger to the field herself. She was a four-year member of the Indiana State soccer program (2016-19), playing in 43 career matches as goalkeeper.
Â
"I am excited and honored to become a part of this staff and the Ball State family," Sullivan said. "Being an Indiana native, Ball State has been a household name for me. I went to Ball State soccer camps growing up and have always looked up to the program. I believe what I have learned as a new coach and former Division I student-athlete will be helpful on and off the field for the team and coaching staff."
Â
Sullivan started 39 of those contests for the Sycamores and finished her career ranked fifth in program history with 177 career saves. Her 1.57 career goals against average ranks second in program history but is the best mark for an ISU goalkeeper who has played more than one season in net. Â
Â
"As a former goalkeeper, I am trying to carry on my leadership and communication skills into coaching," Sullivan added. "I hope to help the team's dynamic and chemistry, along with their player development. I am very motivated to learn from Coach Rife and to continue to work with Coach Yohe, as both have helped me a lot through this transition process. I am eager to get the season started, as this team is full of great talent and has a strong will to win. It's going to be a great year."
Â
Prior to her collegiate career, Sullivan was a standout goalkeeper at Fishers High School, helping guide the team to three IHSAA Semi-State appearances, including a 2014 State Championship and a 2013 state runner-up finish. She earned all-state honorable mention honors, along with first team all-district accolades, during the 2014 championship run.
Â
As a senior in 2015, she finished the year with 17 shutouts and a 0.3 goals against average. In addition to her high school team, Sullivan helped guide the Indy Premier Soccer club to a pair of state championships. She also played for the Olympic Development Program in 2013 and 2014.
