Ohio Outlasts BSU Sunday For Series Split

Sunday's game featured five lead changes, nine pitchers used and Ball State had the tying run on base when the game ended. Noah Navarro had the RBIs and four different Cardinals had two hits.
BIG PICTURE: Central Michigan and Ball State entered the weekend tied for the league lead. CMU swept Eastern Michigan and the Cardinals split. Central owns a 2-game lead in the standings with four left to play. Central plays at Toledo next weekend and Ball State hosts 6th-place Miami.Â
SUNDAY'S TURNING POINT: Ball State led 5-3 when Ohio scored four times in the bottom of the 7th. Ohio's No. 9 hitter hit a 2-run double and then scored on a wild pitch. Harry Witwer-Dukes, the 1st baseman hitting 3rd, later hit a solo home run to make it 9-5.
FOR THE WEEKEND: John Baker won Friday's ace game and Chayce McDermott punched out 13 as Ball State won the second game. Aaron Simpson went 8-for-16 and scored four runs. In all, Simpson has added 31 points to his batting average over the last five games. Nick Powell hit .417 with a homer and a team-best five runs over the weekend. Decker Scheffler went 4-for-8 with a homer over the weekend as well.
ONE MORE SERIES LEFT: Ball State's final regular season series begins Friday when Miami comes to Muncie.Â
