With eight games left in the season and in the hunt for a conference regular season title, the Ball State baseball team travels to Ohio this weekend. BSU enters the weekend tied for 1st place in the league standings.
Â
The Cardinals are coming off a split vs. Kent State at home. For the past two weekends, BSU has split and had a last-bat dramatic win to avoid a series loss. Ball State won 8-7 last Saturday with a pair of runs in the last inning.
Â
Ohio is just behind Ball State in several pitching statistics. Ball State is 3rd in the league in ERA (4.34) while Ohio is 4th (4.83). Likewise for batting average allowed, BSU is 3rd and Ohio 4th.
Â
Ohio has some pop in the lineup, but has been inconsistent in league play. Ohio split with Northern Illinois and is coming off a series loss to Akron. Yet, Ohio won twice vs. Central Michigan so OU is certainly capable of playing with the top teams.
Â
After this weekend, Ball State closes the regular season with a home series vs. Miami.
Â
What To Know For This Weekend
-- Noah Navarro hit 3 of his 8 career home runs last weekend. He homered twice in Saturday's first game off Kent's ace and then came back Sunday with another homer out of the leadoff spot. In his current 8-game hit streak, Navarro is batting .400 with 9 runs scored and 5 walks.Â
-- In the last 12 games (dating back to April 30), Nick Powell is batting .463 (19-41) with a team highs in OBP (.549) and total bases (28). Powell has been hit by pitch 6 times and walked 3 more times in that 12-game stretch.
Â
-- Ball State is 11-5 in conference away games, tied with Central Michigan for best in the league. Ohio is 8-8 in league play in both home and away games.
