Men’s Volleyball Drops First Of Two Game Series To Loyola, 3-0
March 26, 2021 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals finally made their return home to Worthen Arena after being on the road for six-straight matches. Unfortunately, the home court advantage didn't pay off for Ball State against Loyola Chicago in a pivotal Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) match Friday night.
The Cardinals (10-5, 7-4) knew these last two regular home season games weren't going to be easy over Loyola Chicago (12-3, 8-3 MIVA) but did not expect to fall to the Ramblers in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-20).
As the regular season is coming to an end, this weekend's match would be tough as both teams were tied with McKendree at 7-3 in the MIVA rankings coming into tonight's match.
Loyola has had a tendency all season long to jump ahead early at the start of each set and tonight the Rambler's did the same thing against the Cardinals. Ball State stayed close to the Rambler's in each frame but could never quite get over the hump.
Both teams struggled offensively but it was the defensive side of the net that the Rambler's would came out ahead of Ball State statistically. The Rambler's registered 24 digs while the Cardinals only had 15. Loyola also won the blocking battle, 24-9.
Junior outside attacker Kaleb Jenness tallied his 11th double digit kill performance for Ball State after leading the team with 13 kills.
The Cardinals will host the Rambler's again tomorrow night in Worthen Arena. First Serve is at 7 p.m. ET. Ball State will also pay tribute to its seniors and Joel Walton prior to the match.
