Women’s Tennis Extends Win Streak To 11 With 5-2 Win Over Miami
March 19, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - A lot of success continues to happen for the Cardinals as Ball State (11-2, 2-0 MAC) extended its win streak to 11 today after defeating the Miami RedHawks (6-6, 0-3 MAC) 5-2 Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at the Northwest YMCA.
Since the arrival of ninth year had coach Max Norris at Ball State the Cardinals have reached new heights it had never seen before especially in the league action. So today's win over a very good and experienced Miami team was definitely a special one for BSU.
As Norris stated after the game, it was an amazing effort by the Cardinals and that it most certainly was starting with doubles. Although, the RedHawks took court one from Ball State to go ahead first in doubles play that didn't seem to bother the other BSU twosomes on courts two and three.
Jessica Braun paired up with Silvia Martinez for a 6-2 take down over Miami's No. 2 duo of Milana Lysova and Makenzie Myers. With doubles play evened, it came down the veteran twosome of Livia Lukacs and Victoria Sec who breezed past Melati Devia and Sofia Zaprianov also by a score of 6-2 to give BSU the early 1-0 edge over Miami as both teams headed into singles.
Ball State knew singles could present a challenge and that it did because the RedHawks came back and earned wins on the top two courts fairly quickly to take a 2-1 lead over BSU.
But to Ball State was resilient yet again, as Mariya Polishchuk knotted the score at two apiece after earning a 6-3, 6-0 decision at slot No. 3 over Lysova.
Shortly after, Martinez beat Miami's No. 6 player Myers in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
With two courts left and the match score being 3-2 in favor of the Cardinals, Rebecca Herrington became the game-winner for BSU after posting a three-set thriller over Devi (6-1, 2-6, 6-3) on court five.
After that, Amy Kaplan closed out play on a high note for BSU, winning the Cardinals fifth point of the day with a come from behind victory at the No. 4 position.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on Sunday when it travels to Western Michigan. First serve is at 2:30 p.m. ET at Sorensen Courts or indoors at West Hills Athletic Club, weather permitting.
