Based on guidance surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, general public attendance will not be permitted at the Briner Sports Complex this season.
The Ball State soccer team hosts Northern Illinois on Thursday and travels to face Eastern Michigan on Sunday to wrap up its first trip through the five MAC West Division opponents. The 10-game schedule, amazingly, will be at its midway point after this weekend.
Â
Ball State (1-1-1) enters the NIU matchup with one tally in each column of the ledger after a season-opening win over Toledo, an overtime loss at Central Michigan and last week's scoreless draw with early division-leader Western Michigan.
Â
Tatiana Mason continues to lead the Cardinals with two goals this season. She has put six of her seven shots on frame, including two of three last week against Western Michigan when BSU held a 16-3 advantage in shots. Mai Bravo and the BSU back line combined on their second clean sheet of the season against the Broncos.
Â
About Northern Illinois: The Huskies (1-2-0) come in with an overtime win over Toledo and shutout losses against Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan on their ledger. Former All-MAC second teamer Haley Hoppe and freshman Kierah Meier have scored goals this season for NIU.
Â
Ball State has won the past three meetings with Northern Illinois, including last year's 1-0 victory on an 83rd-minute goal from Nicky Potts. BSU racked up 31 total shots in that game to just two for NIU.
Â
About Eastern Michigan: The Eagles (2-1-0) own victories over Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. In their only setback entering this week's games, they surrendered four second-half goals in a 4-0 loss to Western Michigan. Returning All-MAC first teamer Sabrina McNeill leads EMU with two goals. The Eagles, picked No. 2 preseason in the MAC West, will host Toledo on Thursday before preseason division favorite Ball State visits.
Â
The Cardinals split two tight contests with Eastern Michigan last season, both in Muncie. BSU won 3-2 in overtime in the regular season behind two goals, including the game-winner, from Nicky Potts. Sammi Corcoran also scored in that game. EMU then defeated the Cardinals 2-1 in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals on a penalty kick in the 89th minute.
