Cardinals Show True Grit In Indoor Finals
February 27, 2021 | Track & Field
MT. PLEASANT, Michigan - In a season filled with literal and figurative finish lines, the Ball State track & field team showed its true resilience on the indoor season's biggest stage.Â
Consider Kennedy Batts, who turned in a "star" effort according to head coach Brian Etelman. Batts missed her freshman year after having foot surgery and was injured during the indoor season last year. It's her third year in school but really a first year going all out and she turned in some great performances in the championship setting. Batts placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.64) and ran on the third-place 4x400m relay (Thigpen-Batts-Jones-Zumbro).Â
"We're really proud of her character and perseverance," Etelman said. "Really happy for her to get it going."
Charity Griffith battled through some adversity this weekend and scored in the high jump and pentathlon. "We're proud of her," Etelman said.
Ivy McKee was sixth in the conference in both the 60m (7.59) and 200m (25.01)
Elka Machan finished a strong freshman indoor season, placing 11th in the 3000m after a 7th-place run in the 5K.Â
In the team standings, the Cards placed eighth of 12 teams. Northern Illinois won the meet, followed by Akron and Bowling Green.Â
The Cardinals can now prep for the upcoming outdoor season, which will begin Saturday, March 20.
