Outdoor Season Begins For Cardinals This Weekend
March 20, 2021 | Track & Field
The outdoor season is here for the Ball State track & field team. Six meets are currently on the schedule, starting this weekend at Miami's Blizzard Buster. As always for this strange year, safely training and being able to compete is already a win.
"We are really excited to kick off the outdoor season," head coach Brian Etelman said. "This is the point of the season we lost to Covid last year, so there's an underlying tone of appreciation, gratitude and intentionality with the team as we realize that."
Etelman said he feels good that the entire Ball State roster is available. Breanna Byrdsong, the 2019 100m outdoor champion in the conference and the league meet's 2019 MVP, is active in the outdoor season. Distance runner Vivian Van Eck is back in action, as are sprinter Amber Jones and thrower Abby Denham.
As for this weekend's meet at Miami, it's a good measuring stick against a conference opponent. Fans can find a meet schedule here and heat sheets here.
"We're looking forward to building momentum with some competitive intensity on Saturday," Etelman said.
Following the Blizzard Buster, BSU will have entries at the Raleigh Relays March 25-27 and in a meet at Louisville April 2-3.
