Cards Finish Series Split At #22 Arizona

"This was a really good start for our boys. I loved the way we competed in all four games," head coach Rich Maloney said. "To win twice over a ranked opponent like Arizona and give opportunities to a lot of different players were both positives. I saw a lot of good things, but at the same time a lot of things we can improve on. I'm happy for our guys that they now know they can beat anyone on any given day. We could say that time and again, but experiencing it makes it real to the players."

Arizona scored three runs early before BSU got on the board. Trenton Quartermaine smacked an RBI single to score Nick Powell in the 3rd, and Aaron Simpson followed with an RBI double to make it 3-2. Arizona would then score seven unanswered to go up 10-2.Â
Tyler Hinrikus hit a 2-run single and then scored on a Ryan Peltier RBI groundout as Ball State got three runs back late.
The Cards had 12 hits, with four different players getting two hits each. Seven pitchers saw time on the mound, with Eliot Turnquist and Sam Klein making their BSU debuts and Ty Johnson and Luke Schafer making their second career appearances.
The Cardinals will play three games against Charleston Southern next weekend at the Shipyard in Charleston, S.C. It'll be a doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 27 and a single game on Sunday.
