Cardinals Outlast Indiana in Marathon Scrimmage

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team rode a balanced offensive attack and strong finish to an 18-13 win over Indiana in 14 innings on Friday night at Grand Park.
The Cardinals got multiple hits from five players and scored the last five runs of the fall ball competition to outlast the Hoosiers.
Gavin Balius, Ryan Muizelaar, Charlie Keller, Max Kalk and Brett Griffiths pounded out two hits each on the day, while Keller, Brayden Huebner and Tommy Landsnes blasted home runs. Kalk laced a double among Ball State's 17 total hits.
Balius, Griffiths and Brandt Kendall stole bases as part of the 18-run outburst for the Cardinals' offense.
Ball State scored three runs in the second inning and four in the third to build a 7-3 advantage after the first three frames. Trailing 12-11 after the ninth inning of the scheduled 14-inning scrimmage, the Cardinals plated two runs in the 10th inning, four in the 13th and one in the 14th to claim the win over Indiana.
Zach Kwasny (four strikeouts in 2.0 innings), Zander Bretza (two strikeouts in an inning) and John Chambers (two strikeouts in an inning) each tossed scoreless frames out of the Ball State bullpen.
This was the final opponent on the fall schedule for the Cardinals, who will begin the 2026 season in February.
