October 21, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team will play two games on the road this weekend at Longwood University (Oct. 22) and at Virginia Commonwealth (Oct. 24). Both contests are slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
Â
The Cardinals are looking to get back on the winning track as their Mid-American Conference season begins to wind down. Ball State (4-10, 2-3 MAC) has only two league games remaining as it faces Longwood (8-5, 3-2 MAC) in Farmville, Va. and then the Cardinals return home next Saturday against Kent State for their last regular season contest of the year.
Â
The Longwood Lancers lead the all-time series record over the Cardinals 7-4 with the teams' first meeting being played on Oct. 18, 2009, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Longwood. The Cardinals split last season's two-game league series over the Lancers at the Briner Sports Complex losing 3-0 on March 26 and then winning 1-0 on March 27. The last time Ball State played at Longwood was on Oct. 25, 2019 when the Cardinals defeated the Lancers in overtime, 2-1.Â
Â
After Friday, Ball State will take on VCU in a non-conference contest on Sunday. Virginia Commonwealth enters the contest with an overall record of 8-5 and has won both meetings over the Cardinals since the 2015 season. VCU and Ball State's last meeting resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Rams.
Â
The Ball State field hockey team will close its regular season at the Briner Sports Complex on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. ET when it welcomes the Kent State Golden Flashes to Muncie.
