February 28, 2020 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team returned to its winning ways earning a convincing 6-1 victory over Northern Kentucky Friday night at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 6-2 on the season while the Vikings fell to 3-3- overall.

The Cardinals continue to dominate in doubles play this spring, winning their sixth straight over their opponent when Ball State claimed the first point of the match tonight against Northern Kentucky. Rebecca Herrington and Jessica Braun breezed through their No. 3 doubles competition when the twosome earned a 6-0 sweep over NKU's Hannah Watton and Katja Dijanezevic. The Vikings evened doubles action by taking court two from the Cardinals. The point would then come down to the top court as Livia Lukacs and Emma Peeler were tied 4-4 with NKU's Maria Koa and Elizabeth Rozin. With Peeler serving, she served an ace to win the fifth game. After switching sides, Lukacs and Peeler were able to rally to take the sixth game from NKU, clinching the doubles point for the Cardinals.

Emily Desai and Rebecca Herrington were the first two singles matches off the court both winning in straight sets to push the Cardinals lead over the Vikings to 3-0. Peeler won 6-2, 6-1 on court two against Maria Koo to give Ball State match point over Northern Kentucky.

Ball State continued to power through its singles competition as Amy Kaplan along with teammate Lukacs defeated their respective opponents in two frames to move the Cardinals lead to 6-0 versus the Vikings. Unfortunately, Jessica Braun fell in a two set tiebreaker, as she was the last competition on the court at the No. 1 spot.

The Ball State women's tennis team remains at home Saturday when it hosts Murray State for a 2 p.m. first serve at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
