Women's Tennis Rallies For 4-3 Against Murray State
February 29, 2020 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Livia Lukacs clinched match point for the Cardinals after defeating Murray State's Sara Bjork, 6-4, 7-6, Saturday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, to help lift Ball State past the Racers in a 4-3 victory today.
Despite dropping the doubles point to Murray State (8-5), the Cardinals (8-2) roared back in singles play taking the first two matches in straight sets. Senior Rebecca Herrington posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Marit Kreugel on court four to give BSU its first match point. Freshman Amy Kaplan followed suit with a straight set take down at the No. 3 position. Murray State then evened the score at 2-2 after taking court one from the Cardinals. Freshman Emily Desai finished next at the No. 6 slot to put BSU back up by one.
After that, two courts remained and unfortunately for the Cardinals, freshman Emma Peeler suffered a hard fought three set battle that allowed the Racers to knot the match back up 3-3. Lukacs hung on tight as she was already up a frame on court five over Bjork. She then took the second set tiebreaker 8-6.
The Ball State women's tennis team will now travel out west for the Cardinals spring break trip. BSU will play against the University of California San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. PST/ 4 p.m. ET.
