Women’s Tennis Falls 6-1 At IU Despite Taking The Doubles Point From the Hoosiers
February 23, 2020 | Women's Tennis
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Cardinals (6-2) started this evening's match off strong by taking the first point of the competition over Big Ten foe Indiana Sunday at the IU Tennis Center. But unfortunately, the Hoosiers (8-4) fought back in singles play to take the 6-1 win over the Cardinals. Prior to today's loss, the Cardinals had won five straight matches with their last loss being on Jan. 24 versus Louisville.
Ball State's twosome of Victoria Sec and Amy Kaplan were the first doubles match off the court at the No. 2 slot. The duo breezed through their competition against the Hoosiers Caitlin Bernard and Alexandra Staicules, 6-2, to give the Cardinals a good head start. The doubles point would then be clinched by Jessica Braun and partner Rebecca Herrington, as the No. 3 doubles tandem registered a 6-4 decision over Michelle McKamey and Mila Metic.
After that, Indiana would then sweep singles competition over the Cardinals taking wins on all six courts. Ball State didn't make it too easy for them though, as three of the six courts went into third sets. IU went up 3-1 taking straight frame victories at positions one, three and five, in that order. Emma Peeler on court two, Herrington at position four and Emily Desai at the No. 6 spot each took a set from their respective opponents today against the Hoosiers.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home Friday when it hosts Northern Kentucky. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Muncie Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
