This fall's 3-week cross country season comes to its finish this weekend when Ball State runs at the 2020 MAC Women's Cross Country Championship this Saturday. The host is Bowling Green's course, where the Cardinals were able to compete and become familiar on Nov. 7.

"We're more familiar with the course and our opponents, and we know the places on the course where we can improve," distance coach Sarah Pease said. "My feeling is we will run better than we did two weeks ago.

"The past couple weeks everything has been going great. We came out of the last race feeling good. We've worked out and also rested a little for this weekend and I feel good about where we are."

Ball State was sixth among eight conference teams in the Falcon Invitational, which was the league meet tune-up. Elka Machan (8th of 88) and Cayla Eckenroth (18th of 88) were the top Cardinal finishers, while three other Cards improved their times from the team's Oct. 30 meet in Muncie.

Toledo and Miami were the top teams at the Bowling Green meet two weeks ago. Bowling Green's Kailee Perry was the individual champion, winning the race by 18 seconds. Machan was only 5.7 seconds out of fifth place.

While an unconventional and shorter fall season, Pease has felt good about the team and the culture that exists at Ball State.

It's been really good for me here so far. fortunate to work with a group of athletes that are comp and
environment is really positive and we keep getting better as the weeks go on. it's different from what they've done in the past but our team has embraced challenge.
