MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team will remain in-state for its 2020 spring opener when the Cardinals travel to IUPUI for a 5 p.m. match Friday against the Jaguars.
The Cardinals had a promising fall both on and off the court. The Cardinals closed out fall action at West Virginia having a successful tournament, posting singles wins over West Virginia (4-2), Navy (4-1) and Delaware (4-1). BSU also registered doubles victories over Navy and Delaware.
In the classroom, the women's tennis team had the highest fall GPA among all 18 Ball State sports with a combined 3.66 mark.
Ball State return four from last year's MAC Tournament semifinalist squad -- junior Lilya Hadab, senior Rebecca Herrington, sophomore Livia Lukacs and junior Victoria Sec. The Cardinals welcome four freshman -- Jessica Braun, Amy Kaplan, Emma Peeler and Isabelle Desai.
The Mid-American Conference tabbed the Cardinals to finish third in the 2020 MAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll behind Buffalo and Miami.
Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris is set to begin his seventh season at the helm of the Cardinals. Norris has taken the women's tennis program to new heights since his arrival in 2014. He is the only head coach in program history to guide the Cardinals to aMAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. He registered his 100th career victory at BSU last spring against Buffalo and enters this season with an overall mark of 102-38 (.728) and a 32-13 (.711) league ledger.
Ball State will open the home portion of its spring schedule on Friday, Jan. 24 against Louisville at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
