January 17, 2020 | Women's Tennis
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team opened spring action with a 7-0 sweep against IUPUI Friday night at the West Indy Racquet Club. It was the first match of the 2020 season for both the Cardinals (1-0) and the Jaguars (0-1).
A veteran paired up with a newcomer in all of Ball State's three doubles teams this evening. Rebecca Herrington alongside doubles partner Emily Desai would be the first duo off of the court for the Cardinals. The twosome took down IUPUI's Marta Krakowski and Ines Rivera, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Emma Peeler and Livia Lukacs clinched the first point of the match after earning a 6-2 decision against the Jaguars duo of Sarah Lounsbury and Samantha Hayward. Victoria Sec and Amy Kaplan also took the top court from IUPUI.
The Cardinals took all six singles matches from the Jaguars, all but one was decided in straight sets. Lukacs was the first match off the court defeating Diya Matta, 6-1, 6-1 at position six. Kaplan then made it a 3-0 score with her win at the No. 4 slot. Peeler would then clinch match point at the No. 2 singles position with her 6-2, 6-3 defeat over Krystal Grubb.
The Ball State women's tennis team will open its home portion of the 2020 spring season on Friday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. against Louisville in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
