Men’s Volleyball Begins Road Swing in Golden State

MUNCIE, Ind. – After starting the season 2-0 at home, the Ball State University men's volleyball team now departs for a six-match road trip, starting with a trip to California this weekend to take on Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.

ABOUT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE
CSUN enters Friday's contest with a 1-3 record. The Matadors lone win of the season came in a five-set match against Concordia. Kyle Hobus leads Northridge with 67 kills and 75 points on the year.
SERIES HISTORY
The Matadors lead the all-time series with the Cardinals by a tally of 12-7. The two sides last met a season ago in Muncie where Ball State claimed a 3-2 victory in the Don Shondell Active Ankle Challenge.
ABOUT NO. 4 UC SANTA BARBARA
The Gauchos are a perfect 3-0 which has moved them up to No. 4 in the ACVA Top-15. UCSB owns victories over Concordia, Benedictine and McKendree, and will face Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday before the Cardinals visit. Randy DeWeese's 29 kills lead the way for the Gauchos.

Ball State and UCSB have met 21 times previously with Santa Barbara owning a 18-3 advantage in the series. The two schools met just last year when the Gauchos earned a five-set victory.
BALL STATE STORYLINES
2-0: For the fourth consecutive season, Ball State has opened the year with two wins. Ball State last started 3-0 in 2015 when it won four straight to start the season.
ROAD TRIP: After playing its first two matches in the friendly confines of Worthen Arena, the Cardinals now depart for a six-match road trip which will take them to both coasts of the country. After this weekend's contests in California, Ball State will spend back-to-back weekends on the East coast for matches against George Mason, NJIT, Penn State and Saint Francis.
2018: Ball State last won a match in the state of California in 2018 when it defeated Concordia Irvine. The Cardinals spent an entire week in the Golden State on that road trip and played four matches, earning a 2-2 record.
NEW FACES: The Cardinals welcomed four newcomers this offseason. Setter David Flores, middle attacker Wil McPhillips and libero Sammy Adkisson come to Ball State by way of Illinois while outside attacker Bryce Behrendt hails from Wisconsin. Behrendt was named the Wisconsin High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2019.
