Soccer Opens Season at Home with Eastern Illinois, Marquette

MUNCIE, Ind. – A new era in Ball State soccer is set to kick off as the Cardinals, led by new head coach Josh Rife, welcome Eastern Illinois to town Friday and Marquette Sunday when the 2019 season gets underway.

ABOUT EASTERN ILLINOIS (0-0-0)
The Panthers tallied a 6-8-6 record in 2018 and advanced to the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. EIU went 1-1-1 in exhibitions this year with a win over Evansville, loss to Northern Iowa and draw against Northern Illinois. Eastern Illinois was picked fifth in the OVC preseason poll.
SERIES HISTORY
The Cardinals and Panthers have met three times on the pitch with Ball State owning a 2-1-0 advantage. The last meeting occurred in September of 2013 when BSU claimed a 3-0 victory.
ABOUT MARQUETTE (0-0-0)
The Golden Eagles are looking to bounce back from a 4-11-3 campaign in 2018. They defeated the University of Regina, 5-0, before falling to Notre Dame, 0-3, in exhibitions. Marquette will travel to take on Colorado State on Thursday, August 22, before visiting Muncie. The Golden Eagles were selected eighth in the Big East preseason poll.

This is the first ever meeting between Marquette and Ball State.
