Jameson Heat, Messina Blast Power Friday Victory
April 26, 2019 | Baseball
Saturday's game will be at 11:30 a.m.
MUNCIE - When the wind is blowing out at 22+ mph at Ball Diamond, it's good to have Drey Jameson on your team. Jameson went 7 innings and struck out 12 and Ross Messina had a 3-for-4 day with a homer to lift Ball State past Bowling Green 4-2 on Friday.
The wind was howling at the corner of Tillotson and McGalliard, but Jameson kept the ball almost exclusively in the glove of catcher Chase Sebby. Jameson unleashed 116 pitches, retiring 21 of the 27 batters he saw. He struck out 8 BG batters swinging and 4 more looking, pounding the strike zone while allowing 4 soft hits and a pair of walks.Â

The visiting Falcons (13-24, 6-10) got on the board first when Jameson had a walk and wild pitch that set up a soft RBI single by BG's Dylan Dohanos. That fueled the sophomore right-hander, as he retired 13 of the next 14 batters with only 2 balls leaving the infield.Â
BG's Andrew Abrahamowicz, the team's Friday ace who transferred after playing a year for Nebraska, was a worth opponent and runs were hard to come by - even with the hitter-friendly wind. With the score tied 1-1, Messina hit a 2-out, 2-run homer over the MAC Championships sign in right-center to put the Cardinals ahead 3-1.
"My approach all day was middle-right, because if you hit it to left it wasn't going to go anywhere," Messina said. "I was looking middle-away for something to drive and I was able to hit it pretty well. Before the game I was trying to stay on every single pitch and stay in rhythm."
An RBI double by Aaron Simpson in the bottom of the 7th made it 4-1.
Nick Floyd came on to get the final 6 outs for his 3rd save. William Baker and Simpson each had 2 hits and Tim Blankenberger scored twice.Â
