March 06, 2019 | Men's Swimming and Diving
OXFORD, Ohio – Many Cardinals added their names to the record books, but it was Ben Andrew who set a new school record on day three of the Mid-American Conference swimming and diving championships.
Ball State maintained its fourth-place standing with 220.5 points while Miami continues to lead with 623.5.
In the preliminaries of the 100 Fly, Andrew notched the fourth-best time in school history with a 49.30 which placed him in the championship final later in the night. In that event, Andrew finished seventh overall but clocked in at 48.91 which is the fastest time in the history of Ball State swimming.
The day got started with the 400 IM in which Bennet Witteveen recorded a personal record of 4:15.25. Later in the 100 Fly prelims, Andrew was joined by Alec Tuthill who finished with a lifetime best of 49.54 and Duncan McLarty who touched the wall in 51.90 which was also a personal record.
The 200 Free saw Drew Weeks and Ryan Short set personal records with times of 1:41.61 and 1:42.99, respectively. The 100 Breast was no different as Jacob Powell (57.38), Luke Nondorf (58.07) and Graham Carpenter (59.17) all had career times. Powell's time was the 10th best in school history, and he later topped it in the B finals with a 57.20. Nondorf also improved his time to 57.35.
It was the 400 Medley Relay that closed the night, and a team of Logan Ackley, Zach Reichle, Andrew and Duncan McLarty swam the fourth-fastest time in program history at 3:22.22.
