
Ball State’s Rally Comes up Short in 3-2 Loss at Lindenwood

SAINT CHARLES, Mo. – Down 2-1 in the match and facing a 20-18 deficit in game four, the Ball State men's volleyball team rallied to force a fifth set against Lindenwood. Unfortunately, the Cardinals' came up just short as they fell to the Lions, 3-2, Friday night.
Ball State dropped to 13-13 on the year and 4-7 in MIVA play with the loss.
Blake Reardon had a team high 12 kills on the night while David Siebum joined him in double figures with 10. Quinn Isaacson led the Cardinals in assists with 24 and Jake Romano added 18 in his first action at setter since returning from a hand injury. Five different players recorded service aces while Parker Swartz led the way in blocking with five. Chinnici and Reardon had eight digs apiece as well.
The Cardinals came roaring out of the gate with a 25-18 set one win. They appeared to be headed for a similar result in set two, but Lindenwood came storming back and dominated the back end of the game to win it 25-20 and even the match at one set apiece.
The momentum carried to set three for the Lions as they jumped out to a 9-4 advantage. Lindenwood ran away with the rest of the set, growing its lead as big as nine before winning it, 25-16. Ball State appeared to be in trouble with Lindenwood holding a 20-18 lead in set four, but the Cardinals stormed back to force a decisive fifth set.
Ball State couldn't quite find its rhythm in the final game as Lindenwood gradually pulled away. The Cardinals took a timeout to try and extend the match, but the Lions finished off the win, 15-11.
Despite the loss, BSU had one more kill than Lindenwood with 53 for the match. They also led in assists with 51. The difference was blocking as the Lions doubled up the Cardinals with a 12-6 advantage.
Ball State faces a quick turnaround with a match at Quincy Saturday night. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
