Cardinals Pick Up 3-1 Road Win at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – David Siebum and Matt Szews led Ball State with 13 kills apiece, and the Cardinals bounced back from Friday's setback by traveling to Quincy and earning a 3-1 victory on Saturday night.
The win improved Ball State's record to 14-13 and moved the Cardinals to 5-7 in MIVA action.
BSU compiled 54 kills on the night and outhit the Hawks .288 to .153. Ball State doubled up Quincy in serviced aces 8-4 and finished the match with 51 assists and 51 digs.
Set one saw the Cardinals falling behind 7-2 early on. Ball State rallied with a 5-1 run to get back in it, and went on to win the set 25-22. The Hawks took set two to even the match, but BSU responded by jumping out to a five-point lead in game three and winning the set, 25-20.
Ball State quickly got to work on putting away the match by snagging a 3-0 lead to open set four, and ran away with it as a 25-15 victory clinched the win.
Right behind Siebum and Szews was Ben Chinnici who had 12 kills. Jake Romano got the nod at setter and totaled 45 assists for the match along with four service aces. Lemuel Turner had a team high three blocks and Chinnici led the way in digs with 10.
Ball State now prepares for the final week of the regular season in which it will face McKendree and Ohio State. The Cardinals will be battling for home court advantage in the first round of the upcoming MIVA Tournament.
