Ball State hosts Western Michigan to open MAC play this weekend
The game featured 27 hits and 18 walks and it was Ball State who had enough to win. Trailing 11-9 with one out into the 9th, an infield single on a rocket comebacker by Aaron Simpson helped Ball State tie the game, as William Baker and pinch runner Drey Jameson sprinted home. With the bases loaded and one out, Messina lifted a fly ball to center to score Tim Blankenberger from 3rd base. The video below shows the three winning runs in the 9th.
Simpson finished the day 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBIs, while Messina had three RBIs and William Baker collected three hits and a walk. John Ricotta also singled, doubled and walked and scored the first of BSU's four runs in the bottom of the 9th.

Ball State led 5-0 early in the game and led 6-1 after three innings. Purdue Fort Wayne rallied with five runs in the bottom of the 6th and four in the bottom of the 8th. Landon McGill was credited with the win, the first of his career, and Ty Weatherly struck out seven over 4.1 innings of relief. Fort Wayne had five players with multiple hits and two player who hit a home run.
HOME SWEET HOME
Wednesday's win was the 200th for Rich Maloney as head coach at Ball State. The Cards are 200-83-1 in home games under Maloney all-time.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
This weekend's series vs. Western Michigan will be played at Ball State due to field conditions in Kalamazoo. Jameson will start the series opener against the Broncos Friday, March 22 at 3 p.m. The Saturday and Sunday games in Muncie will be at 1 p.m.
