The Ball State baseball team travels to SEC country this weekend for a three-game set vs. Alabama, hoping to rekindle memories of 2016 when the Cards won 7-1 at LSU. Ball State lost three of four games in the season's first weekend, with two games decided by one run. Three of the games were at neutral sites and one was a true road game at Grand Canyon.
The biggest story of the young season has been the lights-out performance of sophomore Drey Jameson in the season opener. Jameson was named MAC Pitcher of the Week and was honored among the nation's best by Collegiate Baseball after throwing 6.0 no-hit innings vs. Stanford.

The difference between starting the season 1-3 or 3-1 came down to a handful of defensive plays and timely hitting. BSU was tied with nationally-ranked Stanford before allowing the go-ahead run in the 7th and also owned a 6-5, 9th-inning lead vs. CSUB on Sunday before allowing two runs in the top of the 9th.Â
Offensively, 2B Noah Navarro led the team by batting .412 and scoring five runs while senior outfielder Griffin Hulecki had three multi-hit games and batted .375. Ball State had an early lead - striking in the 1st inning each time - in the final three games last weekend.Â
Rain is a factor in the Tuscaloosa forecast this weekend, and game times are likely to change. Be sure to follow @BallStateBB on Twitter and stay here on BallStateSports.com for updates.
