FISHERS, Ind. – In preparation for the fast-approaching Mid-American Conference championships, the men of the Ball State University swimming and diving team had one last meet and finished fifth at the Butler Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
As a team, the Cardinals finished with 262 points. Xavier won the competition with 548.5 team points.
"Our divers came up big for us today on the scoreboard, led by Hunter Ongay who put up the top diving scores for us," said head coach J. Agnew. "Our trio of finalists in the swimming events kept us in the fight all day long."
Ongay started his day by placing third in the 1m with a score of 259.30. He again placed third on the 3m, this time with a score of 268.60 Sean Wolfe finished sixth and fifth in the same events.
In the pool, Ball State was paced by Luke Nondorf, Ben Andrew and Logan Ackley. Nondorf got things started with a top-10 finish in the 100 breast. His time of 1:00.07 was good for ninth place in the event.
Similarly, Andrew placed ninth in the 50 free with a time of 21.92, while also placing 10th in the 100 fly after clocking in at 52.43. His third top-10 finish of the day came in the 400 free relay when he helped the Cardinals finish 10th with a time of 3:14.10. Logan Ackley's best result of the day was in the 200 back where he finished seventh on a 27.51.
Joining the men at this meet were Ball State's women divers. Caitlin Locante and Rachel Smallwood claimed third and fourth in the 1m while Locante also finished third in the 3m.
