Ball State Student-Athletes Continue to Shine in the Classroom
January 10, 2019 | General
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2018 fall academic semester grades are in and once again the Ball State student-athletes continue to raise the bar in the classroom.
Â
The term GPA for all student-athletes was 3.26, the highest semester tally in at least a decade.
Â
"I couldn't be more proud of the commitment and effort our student-athletes made in the classroom this semester," Ball State Athletics Director Beth Goetz said. "When I talk to them about their experience here at Ball State, they rave about the personal investment our faculty make in their success. Ball State has created an environment where they can achieve their goals both on and off the fields of play, and we applaud their academic achievements."
Nearly 70 percent of student-athletes finished the semester with at least a 3.0 GPA. Forty-one Cardinals posted a perfect 4.0 GPA and 184 student-athletes qualified for the Dean's List (3.5 GPA for 12 or more credits of graded course work).
The cross country team finished with the highest team GPA (3.717) during the fall semester, while the men's golf team had the best team GPA (3.573) among the seven men's sports.
Â
Seventeen of the 19 varsity sports were at or better than a 3.0 GPA for the semester.
Â
Eighteen student-athletes earned their bachelor's degree in December – Roman Baisa (baseball), Seth Freed (baseball), James Gilbert (football), Paula Guerrero (soccer), Morgan Hagee (football), Jordan Hogue (football), Alex Joss (football), Malik King (football), Justin Kirkpatrick (baseball), Maddy Labrador (softball), Banistre Lienhart (men's swimming & diving), Josh Miller (football), Riley Neal (football), Danny Pinter (football), Devin Reece (football), Kyle Schrank (football), Gabby Sims (track & field) and Meg Starling (women's volleyball).
