Game Day Central: Ball State, WKU Both Looking for Pivotal ‘W’ This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. – After back-to-back road games, the Ball State football team returns home to Scheumann Stadium this Saturday to take on the WKU Hilltoppers. This is the second game of a home-and-home series between the two squads. WKU won last year's meeting in Bowling Green, Kentucky, 33-21.

1. Ball State wraps up its non-conference schedule Saturday against WKU out of Conference USA. The Hilltoppers won the 2016 C-USA crown and have played in a bowl game four straight years. Ball State is 4-0 in home non-conference games under head coach Mike Neu.
2. QB Riley Neal became the fourth Cardinal to reach 6,000 career passing yards last week at Indiana. He needs 242 yards to pass head coach Mike Neu on Ball State's all-time passing list.
3. Ball State defensive coordinator David Elson worked at WKU for 14 years culminating as WKU's head coach from 2003-09. Elson led the Hilltoppers to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) No. 1 national ranking twice during the 2005 season. He also guided WKU through the transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level.

3 – The Cardinals open a three-game home stand Saturday against WKU. This is the third time in the last four years the Cardinals have had a three-game home stand in their schedule.
25 – RB James Gilbert tallied his 25th rushing touchdown last week at Indiana. He is the seventh Cardinal to reach that mark.
