
Men’s Tennis Defeats Binghamton 5-2 In MAC Action Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team (14-9, 3-3 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference action this weekend with a 5-2 win over Binghamton (5-17, 1-7 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals took the doubles point from Bearcats but it wasn't easy, as the No. 1 doubles tandem of Nemanja Guzina and Collin Rigney would lose their match 6-2. Ball State had went ahead early on courts two and three taking an impressive 4-1 lead but Binghamton would fight back to knot both matches, 4-4. The remainder of the competition would be tight but Marko Guzina and Conner Andersen won 7-6 (5) at the number two position over Alejandro Pena and Inigo Saez to even doubles play. Chris Adams alongside partner Tom Carney locked up the doubles point for Ball State after their 7-5 victory over Josh Druger and Sebastian Quiros.
Ball State put itself in good shape at the start of singles play after quickly taking first sets on the top three courts from the Bearcats. Marko Guzina pushed the Cardinals lead to 2-0 with his straight set defeat over Kushaan Nath. Binghamton earned their first point of the day at number six singles. With the score 2-1 and four courts remaining, Thibault de Negri took down Sebastian Quiro at position three, 6-2, 6-0. After that, Nemanja Guzina beat Tago Lourenco 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the win for Ball State. Chris Adams also won for the Cardinals today in a third set tiebreaker at number five singles.
The Ball State men's tennis team will wrap up Mid-American Conference regular season play Sunday at home against Buffalo. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
