WBB Takes Down Western Michigan 85-58 In MAC Action Wednesday

MUNCIE, Ind. - Four Cardinals scored in double figures, as Ball State (22-4, 10-4 MAC) took down Western Michigan (14-12, 7-7 MAC) by a score of 85-58 Wednesday night in Worthen Arena.
For the second-straight contest junior guard Jasmin Samz led all Cardinals with 17 points. Senior forward Destiny Washington collected her eighth career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both senior forward Moriah Monaco and junior guard Nakeya Penny each added 10 points to the victory.
The Cardinals boasted a stout defensive performance in tonight's contest holding the Broncos to 35.1 percent shooting from the field while also forcing WMU to commit 17 turnovers.
Ball State jumped out to a quick 16-9 lead over Western Michigan midway through the opening quarter. The Cardinals never looked back, finishing the first quarter up, 26-12, behind 58 percent (10-of-17) shooting. Senior guard Frannie Frazier fueled the offense with nine points.
The Cardinals built on its lead in the second period, going into halftime ahead of the Broncos, 48-27. Ball State found the majority of its success in the paint and off turnovers in the first half, scoring 22 points down low and 21 points off turnovers compared to WMU's 10 points in the paint and seven off miscues.
Ball State continued to dominate the game in the third quarter eventually building a 35 point cushion with 35 seconds remaining before heading into the final frame. The scoring deficit along with the Cardinals tight defense was too much for Western Michigan to overcome in the fourth period. Ball State would end the game scoring 80-plus points for the 16th time this season.
After tonight's contest the Cardinals will play their last home Mid-American Conference regular season game of the year. Ball State hosts the Toledo Rockets Saturday at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will say good-bye to their seniors Keri Kleist, Frannie Frazier, Destiny Washington, Moriah Monaco and Alana Aguirre.
