MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey will play its final road games of the season this weekend. The Cardinals travel to Central Michigan for a 3 p.m. ET start Friday in a Mid-American Conference contest.  Ball State will then wrap up the weekend at No. 17 Northwestern Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals (2-12, 2-2 MAC) suffered losses to Kent State (4-0) and No. 7 Michigan (6-0) last weekend.  Against the Wolverines, sophomore goalkeeper Grace Chavez led defensively by tying her career high with 13 saves.  Chavez now has collected double digit saves in five games this season and is nine shy of 200 for her career.
On Friday, the Cardinals will take on Central Michigan in MAC play.  The Chippewas enter the contest with a 1-15 overall record and currently own an 0-5 league ledger.  Last week, Central Michigan fell 5-1 to Appalachian State and 2-1 against Davidson.  Last season, Ball State defeated the Chippewas by a score of 1-0 in Muncie.  Current volunteer coach Carley Shannon connected on the game-winning goal.  The Cardinals have won their last two over the Chippewas. Â
Ball State will face its sixth nationally ranked opponent this season when it travels to No. 17 Northwestern Sunday.  The Wildcats own an 8-8 overall record and are 3-4 in Big Ten action.  Northwestern has suffered three straight losses after falling to No. 14 Rutgers (2-1) and No. 6 Penn State (4-3) last weekend.  The Wildcats have won the last eight meetings over the Cardinals, including a 6-0 victory at the Briner Sports Complex last year.
After this weekend, the Ball State field hockey team will close regular season action when it hosts Longwood for its last MAC contest of the season Oct. 27 at the Briner Sports Complex. The game is slated to begin a 1 p.m. ET.
