Cardinals head to Dallas to compete against eight top-25 teams from a year ago
A strong national field awaits the Ball State men's golf team this week at the inaugural Trinity Forest Invitational hosted by SMU.
The 13-team field features eight squads who finished last season ranked among the top 25 in the country and six that reached the 2017 NCAA Nationals (USC, Oregon, Texas, Auburn, Pepperdine and Clemson).

Opened just one year ago, Trinity Forest is a links-style course designed by the renowned team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The course will begin hosting the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson next year.

About the Cardinals
Ball State is coming off a fourth-place finish in a field of 16 teams at the EKU Intercollegiate. Johnny Watts placed third individually on his way to MAC Golfer of the Week honors.
Watts paces the Cardinals through the first two events of the season with a 72.33 scoring average, bolstered by a career-best 65 in the opening round at EKU. He was one of four BSU players to finish among the top 30 last week, joining Michael VanDeventer, Timothy Wiseman and Jack Cunningham.
Cunningham, a freshman, has competed in each of the first two events and played steady golf. He closed the EKU event with consecutive rounds of 71, matching Watts for the team's best score over the closing 36 holes.
Coming Up
The Trinity Forest Invitational marks the third straight week of competition for Ball State to open the season. Following the event, the Cardinals will catch a breather before returning to action Oct. 16-17 at the Crooked Stick Invitational.
