Cardinals wrap up Trinity Forest Invitational in 13th place
DALLAS -- Timothy Wiseman closed with a 1-under par 70 Tuesday to vault 18 spots up the leaderboard and pace the Ball State men's golf team in the final round of the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Ball State posted a third-round score of 295 as a team, also counting a 74 from Johnny Watts, a 75 from Michael Makris and a 76 from Jack Cunningham. The Cardinals finished in 13th place with a 54-hole total of 876 (+24) at Trinity Forest Golf Club, the future home of the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson.
Florida, which held at least a share of the lead after each of the three rounds, pulled away for a 10-shot victory with a score of 835 (-17). Second-round co-leader Auburn (-7) and Texas Tech (-7) tied for second. Those three teams were among eight in this week's field that finished last year ranked among the top 25 in the nation.
USC's Justin Suh, who shared the 36-hole lead, closed with a 67 to claim medalist honors at 10 under par. Florida's Gordon Neale (-7) climbed to second after firing the low round of the tournament with a 63.
Wiseman was Ball State's top finisher in a tie for 29th place. He made three birdies and just two bogeys in his final round, using a birdie on his 17th hole of the day to get into red figures for good. Watts tied for 46th, while Makris tied for 49th.
The Trinity Forest Invitational marked Ball State's third event in the first three weeks of the season. Now at the midway point of the fall schedule, the Cardinals will catch a breather before returning to action Oct. 16-17 at the Crooked Stick Invitational in Carmel.
