April 21, 2017 | Men's Golf
Cardinals will see six other MAC teams in final event before league championships
LIVE SCORING
The Ball State men's golf team will play its final tune-up for the Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend with a trip to Columbus, Ohio, for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
And the Cardinals will have a chance to gauge the competition for the league tournament, with six other MAC teams competing on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University Golf Club. Those teams are 12th-ranked Kent State, Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami and Northern Illinois.
The rest of the field comes from the Big Ten, headlined by No. 10 Illinois and also including Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers.
The action begins Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes on the opening day and then wrap up the event with the final round Sunday. Live scoring is available throughout at golfstat.com.
The Cardinals head to Columbus off a runner-up finish at last week's Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational, highlighted by individual medalist honors for Michael VanDeventer. The junior led a quartet of Cardinals in the top 15, including Michael Makris, Johnny Watts and Timothy Wiseman.
Those four are joined in the lineup by Colin Proctor, whose second-round 73 at the EY Memorial, helped put Ball State in position to make a run.
The Cardinals will look to continue building momentum for the MAC Championships, which will be played next weekend just an hour further east at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
