Ball State – John Baker, RHP (2-1, 2.70 ERA, 27 Ks)
Valparaiso – Jake Larson, RHP (0-0, 5.79 ERA, 4 Ks)
Around the Horn
Opening Pitch: Ball State hopes to bring its suddenly hot hitting ways back to Muncie. The Cardinals scored 46 runs to go along with six home runs and 12 doubles in the three-game sweep at Western Michigan this past weekend.
The Cardinals are averaging 3.7 runs per game at home.
Freshman RHP John Baker will get the start today. Two of his last three starts have been quality starts. On March 19 at Dayton, Baker carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning.
Series History: Ball State has won nine of the last 10 meetings and owns a 42-28-1 advantage in the all-time series against Valparaiso. This is the third straight year the two teams have met on the diamond.
Last year, the Cardinals rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pull out a 3-2 win. Former Cardinal Jarett Rindfleisch knocked in the winning run with a seventh inning RBI single. INF Sean Kennedy produced the other two runs with a home run.
Season Highs: The 18 runs scored and 19 hits on Sunday at Western Michigan were both season highs for Ball State. Senior 1B/C Caleb Stayton racked up three hits and is riding a six-game hitting streak. Junior INF Seth Freed also tallied three hits and scored four runs.
