Baseball Stays Hot in 11-2 Win Over Valpo

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team picked up its fourth consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon with an 11-2 win over Valparaiso at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
During the four-game winning streak, Ball State (15-18) has piled up 57 runs, six home runs, 19 doubles and a .406 batting average.
The Cardinals jumped on top of Valparaiso (12-18) quickly in the first inning with a four-run outburst. Senior Caleb Stayton, junior Seth Freed and senior Matt Eppers produced RBI hits.
After the Crusaders plated a run in the top of the third, Ball State responded with another four spot in the bottom of the frame. Eppers chipped in with a two-out RBI single and sophomore Roman Baisa followed with a two-run double down the right field line.
The Cardinals put the game away with three more runs in the fifth inning. Junior Jeff Riedel notched the big hit in that inning, a two-run double to the left field fence.
Eppers and fellow senior Alex Maloney each notched three hits. Over the last four games, Eppers is batting .765 (13-of-17) and Maloney stands at .500 (8-of-16).
Freshman starting pitcher John Baker (3-1) earned his third win of 2017. The righty made it through five innings, struck out five batters and held Valpo to two runs.
The Cardinals return to league action this weekend with a three-game home series against Bowling Green. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN3 and produced by Ball State Sports Link. Game one on Friday is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
