Georgetown Snaps Ball State Baseball’s Winning Streak
March 05, 2017 | Baseball
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Georgetown pitcher Kevin Superko threw eight shutout innings helping the Hoyas defeat the Ball State baseball team Sunday morning at the Snowbird Baseball Classic, 3-0. The Cardinals (7-4) had won three straight games on their Florida spring break trip before today's loss.
Superko struck out six batters and scattered six hits over eight innings. Jimmy Swad held Ball State off the scoreboard in the ninth inning to complete Georgetown's (7-5) second shutout of the season and fifth consecutive victory.
The Hoyas got on the board thanks to Sammy Stephen's RBI single in the fourth inning. Georgetown added two more runs in the seventh inning on Zach Racusin's two-out, two-run single.
Ball State's best scoring chance came in the second inning when the Cardinals loaded the bases with one out. However, senior Matt Eppers lined out to the shortstop and freshman Erek Bolton struck out swinging to end the threat.
Senior Kevin Marnon (2-1) suffered his first loss. The lefty went 6.2 innings, struck out six batters and was responsible for all three runs.
The Cardinals have Monday off before concluding play at the Snowbird Baseball Classic on Tuesday, March 7 versus Boston College.
