Return to the Sunshine State: This is the fourth straight year the Ball State baseball team has made a trip to the Sunshine State. Ball State played the opening weekend in Florida as well. The Cardinals are 9-6 in games played in Florida the last four years.
Series History: The Snowbird Baseball Classic marks the first-ever meeting between the Cardinals and Villanova, Northeastern, Georgetown and Boston College.
Ball State has met Chicago State on the diamond in four previous games. The Cardinals hold a 3-1 series lead with a run advantage of 23-7.
Quality Pitching: Ball State starting pitching produced quality outings in all four games at last week's Caravelle Resort Tournament. Ball State's team ERA of 2.76 ranks second in the MAC behind only Kent State (2.42). Junior RHP Colin Brockhouse leads the league with 17 strikeouts.
A Near No-Hitter: Junior RHP Colin Brockhouse carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against West Virginia on Feb. 26. He finished with a stat line of 8.0 innings pitched, two runs, three hits and a career-high nine strikeouts.
Ball State's most recent no-hitter came in a five-inning game against Taylor University on April 11, 1996.
MAC West Pitcher of the Week: Sophomore RHP Evan Marquardt, making just his third career start for the Cardinals this past weekend, notched career bests in both innings pitched (7.0) and strikeouts (nine) in the 7-0 win over George Mason on Feb. 25.
The right-handed pitcher from Midland, Michigan, retired the first 12 GMU batters before allowing a single to start the fifth inning. For his efforts, he was named MAC West Pitcher of the Week.
