Men’s Golf Back in Action at Mason Rudolph Championship
March 30, 2017 | Men's Golf
Cardinals teeing it up for first time since winning at Pinehurst
LIVE SCORING
Coming off a win in its most recent outing, the Ball State men's golf team heads south to face a strong field at the Mason Rudolph Championship outside Nashville, Tennessee.
The tournament will be played over three days, starting Friday morning. Ball State's opening-round tee times begin at 8:45 a.m. CT (9:45 ET) off the 10th tee, and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Played on the South Course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, the event features eight of the top 75 teams in the Golfstat national rankings, headlined by tournament host and third-ranked Vanderbilt. The Commodores have won the tournament two years in a row and three of the past four.
Florida (6), Duke (21), Missouri (26), Liberty (43), Middle Tennessee (49), Alabama (52), Troy (61) and Iowa (73) are the other teams in the top 75 competing this week. Belmont, East Tennessee State, Miami (Ohio) and Southern Illinois round out the 14-team field.
Ball State will carry momentum into the tournament after winning the Pinehurst Intercollegiate three weeks ago in its most recent action. The Cardinals pulled away down the stretch for a seven-shot victory at Pinehurst No. 8. The performance was part of an upward trend for Ball State, which has placed among the top 4 in three of its past four stroke play events.
Timothy Wiseman led four Cardinals in the top 20 at Pinehurst with a career-best second-place finish. The sophomore from Corydon, Indiana, played the final two rounds in even-par and finished just one shot off the lead. Johnny Watts and Michael Makris were close behind him in a tie for seventh, while Michael VanDeventer tied for 19th.
That quartet will be joined this week by redshirt sophomore Colin Proctor, who will be making his debut in the Ball State lineup.
Ball State has played in the Mason Rudolph Championship three years in a row and finished seventh last year among a class field. Watts led the Cardinals individually in a tie for 24th place.
