Track & Field Wins Six Events at Stan Lyons Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State track & field team opened the 2017 outdoor season with six event wins and 13 career-best performances in limited action at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.

The Cardinals scored wins in six of the nine events they competed in and finished the day with 12 top 10 performances versus the 11-team field. With the limited entries, the Cardinals finished sixth overall with 82 points over the meet's 17 events.

The day started with sophomore Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) easily capturing the high jump title by clearing 1.66m. The next closest competitor was only able to clear 1.56m on the cold day in Indianapolis.

Ball State also dominated the throwing events, as freshman Kelsey Walters (Troy, Ohio/Troy) won the shot put at 12.28m and junior Adrienne Mayfield (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) took top billing in the discus at 38.65m.

On the track, senior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) earned her first event victory of the season, winning the 400m dash by over two seconds at 58.72. The next closest competitor finished in 1:00.82.

Freshman Emily Tromp (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) picked up the Cardinals' final individual event victory, winning the 800m run in 2:17.18. Her classmate Peyton Kneadler (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) finished in a close second at 2:17.64.

The Cardinals closed the day with a win in the 4x400m relay, as freshman Jasmine Harris (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange), freshman Amber Jones (Matteson, Ill./Rich South), sophomore Jazmin Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/North College Hill) and sophomore Peyton Stewart (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) combined for a time of 3:58.50, pacing the field by nearly three-and-a-half seconds.

Next up for the Ball State track & field team is the Raleigh Relays which run March 24-25 at NC State's Dail Soccer Field and Track Complex.
