MUNCIE, Ind. – After suffering its first loss of the season last weekend, the Ball State field hockey team is looking forward to returning to game action this weekend at Northwestern.
The mood surrounding practice this week is that of positivity and encouragement. Players and coaches are upbeat and ready to get to work in preparation for this weekend's games against Northwestern and Colgate.
Senior midfielder Morgan Nash explained how the team is taking what they learned from the loss this past weekend and are using that as fuel for practice and the upcoming games.
"In practice this week, we really just need to focus on what works best for us and not worry so much about who we are playing against," Nash said. "If we can take away what we learned from the games this past weekend, I think we can do really well in our games on Friday and Saturday."
Nash also credits the new culture and atmosphere to the new coaching staff.
"The new coaching staff just really pushes us to the best of our ability," Nash said. "Everyone is really comfortable with Christy [Longacre], Kelsey [Smither] and Kate [McBeath] and really wants to work hard for them. The team dynamics are a little different this year. We are closer as a team. We just want to work hard for each other and we all have the same mindset. I think that is why we have been so successful so far this season."
The Cardinals (3-1) will use the preparation from this week and take it up to Evanston, Illinois for another weekend road trip. The team will be in action against Northwestern on Friday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. The Cards will then take on Colgate Saturday, Sept. 10 at noon in a neutral site game.
