Tyler, Butler Help Lift Ball State to 8-3 Win Over Eastern Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. – It was a happy Senior Day for the Ball State baseball team as the Cardinals won the rubber game over Eastern Michigan Sunday afternoon at Ball Diamond, 8-3.
Senior Scott Tyler provided the key hit in the game, a two-out, two-run home run down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning to put Ball State (29-19, 14-7 MAC) in front for the first time, 4-3.
Junior relief pitcher BJ Butler (5-0) made the lead hold up as the righty pitched the final five frames and only allowed two singles. Butler has made 10 consecutive league appearances without allowing a run. This weekend alone, he tallied a save on Friday and the victory today.
The Cardinals pulled away late in the game, scoring three runs with two outs in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth.
Besides Tyler, five other Ball State batters recorded an RBI – junior Alex Maloney, junior Alex Call, senior Ryan Spaulding, junior Sean Kennedy and junior Matt Eppers.
Marquise Gill hit his first home run of the season for Eastern Michigan (18-27, 9-9) while John Montgomery tallied two RBIs. EMU's starting pitcher Tyler Butzin struck out a season-high nine batters, but was charged with six runs in 6.2 innings pitched.
Tyler, Kennedy, pitcher Matt Haro and student manager Anthony Marquez were all honored before the game for their time and service to the Ball State baseball team.
Ball State will play its final home game of the 2016 season this Wednesday, May 11 against Indiana State. The non-conference game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
