Purdue Picks Up 9-2 Win Over Ball State
April 20, 2016 | Baseball
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Host Purdue scored in five of its eight at-bats to cruise to a 9-2 win over the Ball State baseball team Tuesday evening at Alexander Field.
The Boilermakers (6-27) scored three runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Nick Dalesandro came up with the only hit of the inning, but it proved to be a big one. Purdue's left fielder doubled down the right field line with two outs to score two runners and give the home team a 4-2 lead.
Purdue went on to score two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh to pull away.
Meanwhile, Ball State (23-15) was held to its lowest run total in 15 games. Purdue's three pitchers held the Cardinals to just six singles and half of those came from redshirt freshman Roman Baisa.
The two teams split a home-and-home series this season. Ball State downed Purdue on March 22, 9-8.
Next up for Ball State is a home weekend league series against Bowling Green. Game one at Ball Diamond is scheduled for Friday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
