Baseball Suffers Two Losses Saturday at EMU

Ball State's baseball team suffered a pair of Mid-American Conference losses at Eastern Michigan Saturday in a double header after winning Friday's single game.
With the pair of losses, the Cardinals fall to 24-14 overall and 9-6 in conference action. Ball State lost 8-4 and 9-8 to the Eagles.
In the first game, Ball State suffered an 8-4 loss after leading 4-2 through 5.5 innings, but giving up three in the sixth and three in the seventh to the Eagles.
Trevor Henderson started on the mound for the Cardinals and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs. B.J. Butler came on in relief and pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out two.
Alex Call was 4-for-5 on the day with one run-batted-in and one run scored. Elbert Devarie was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Matt Eppers was 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Jarett Rindfleisch got the Cardinals on the scoreboard first with an RBI double down the left field line in the first inning.
After EMU scored two in the second inning, Ball State tied the game with one run in the fifth on a Devarie sacrifice fly that scored Call, who had singled to left.
In the top half of the sixth, Ball State increased its lead to 4-2 with a pair of runs. Eppers started the inning with a bunt single and Scott Tyler singled to right to advance Eppers to third. Alex Maloney's fielder's choice scored Eppers and a Call single to center field scored Maloney.
Eastern Michigan's big sixth and seventh innings earned them the win despite the Cardinals out-hitting the Eagles 13-12 in the game.
In game two, the Cardinals scored two runs in the first, but Eastern Michigan answered with four in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Ball State rallied for three more runs in the next two innings to take a 5-4 lead after three.
After Eastern Michigan tied the game at 6-6 through five innings, Ball State rallied for two more in the sixth to move ahead 8-6. But the Eagles added three more in the seventh to win the contest 9-8.
Colin Brockhouse started the game on the mound and suffered the loss to fall to 2-1. Call was 4-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored. Ryan Spaulding enjoyed a 2-for-5 day at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Devarie was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Sean Kennedy was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Eppers was 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.
Ball State returns to action at Purdue Wednesday.
